Tomorrow Always Has Been Better Than Today
I've been doing a lot of listening to the famed radio announcer, Paul Harvey. He's passed on now, but I remember some of the words that he offered during his acceptance speech at the R&R Talk Radio Seminar in 2003.
He said this... "Tomorrow always has been better than today, and it still will be." What does that look like in reality?
For many of my colleagues at Shenandoah, this is a stressful time of year. We're in the midst of week 7, and even with Fall Break next week, the end seems so far away. For many, the light can't be seen because you are buried so deep in the mounds of homework and rehearsals. It has simply become too much to bear.
Now, let's bring this around to everyone.
We get so stressed over life. We allow the little things to creep up on us and bog us down in agony and despair. We go 'round and 'round trying to answer the questions that we haven't an answer for. We make up hypothetical worst-case scenarios and stress over something that hasn't even happened yet. We dig ourselves so deeply into that mound of stress; no one has to help us get there.
I was thinking about my own list of things that need doing; we're only talking about what I have coming up in the next day or so. Frankly, it would seem as though I haven't the time to do everything that needs to be done. Then, I realized this.
There are some things that we can control, and there are other things that we cannot control.
We can one of two things. We can sit and stress about the things which we do not have control over, or we can take steps to change the things that we do have control over. Granted, it's not always as simple as thinking it through, but it's a start.
These growing pains of life are not always easy to bear. In fact, they may take the very life out of us at times. But ya know something... we are better off for having gone through these times of testing. We are strengthened for having weathered the storms and tempests that life often brings.
If I can say any one positive thing about the stresses in life, it would be this.
Let us be thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow in the midst of life's most difficult days, and may we go on to share these moments with those around us. May we be able to use those experiences in helping someone else who is about to go down that same path.
Look for the opportunities that life presents to you... even when it seems as though life has nothing more to offer.
Remember, "Tomorrow always has been better than today, and it still will be."
