Hosanna!

For many of us, today is considered Palm Sunday. A day when Jesus rode into the city on a colt. The crowds lined the streets... waving palm branches and shouting "Hosanna!" (literally meaning "please deliver us") It was more or less a day of jubilant praise and adoration for the One called the Christ. 
Yet, later in that week, Jesus would be betrayed into the hands of soldiers... beaten, tortured, mocked... then led to a cross at Golgotha (Calvary). On that cross, He would then breathe His last. Yet, the story does not end there.
As we embark upon this Holy Week, I encourage you to seek God's direction in your own life. Some of us will go through the rituals while walking down a dark, lonely road. Last year was my first full experience of Holy Week in the liturgical church. The world seemed dark and empty. And yet with each passing day, I knew that a day of rejoicing and celebration was coming... Easter was fast approaching.
While this week ahead may be solemn and darkened... I encourage you to remember what comes after the darkness. As the song says, "The darkest hour means dawn is just in sight." Easter is fast approaching.

Sing Me a Song

Music is an interactive art form. Not only are you able to hear and take in a performance, but you are also able to participate by singing, humming, or dancing. When it comes to senior citizens, they love to participate in musical programs. In fact, at 99% of my performances, the seniors will sing along with just about every song. Yet, at a recent show in Potomac Falls, VA, I was witness to something that will remain with me for years to come. It was a relatively large crowd at my performance this past Friday at Falcon’s Landing. Since last year, I have hosted a number of “Simply Timeless” programs. This day, however, a number of seniors had the company of their children and grandchildren. As the program continued, I moved into a highlight of songs written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer. Then Sings My Soul

When Mom and I were living in Beaverdam, VA, we would often go to the community's 5th Sunday Gospel Sing. Choirs from all around northwestern Hanover County would gather to join in worship through song. Those churches were packed, but we didn't care. It was such a blessing to sing the hymns of the faith with my brothers and sisters in Christ. We laughed and we cried together through the music.  That was over ten years ago... Fast forward to this weekend.  I've been battling the creeping crud of the fall season. Thankfully, I'm past the worst of the ordeal, but needless to say, it has not be a fun weekend.
